Oct. 22, 2010. Several residents living in homes on the lake were served eviction notice on Oct. 18, but were told not to share these with civil society or the media, or forfeit the compensation altogether. Some notices nevertheless got out: these give residents seven days to dismantle their homes or face forced demolition.
The rate of houses disappearing form the lake has intensified, but it is difficult to know how many homes remain. On Friday morning police prevented NGO monitors and members of the media from going into Village 6, where homes were being taken down.
Oct. 25 marks the deadline of the eviction notice.
