Villagers face court

Khouth Sophakchakrya, Phnom Penh Post, Nov. 03 2011

Two village representatives from around Boeung Kak lake appeared for questioning in Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday in relation to a defamation complaint filed by a lawyer for the municipal hall. Tep Vanny told reporters the complaint against herself and Heng Mom was based on a quote in a September article in the Post, regarding allegations that land titles were awarded to developer Shukaku Inc within an onsite relocation area for villagers. Shukaku was awarded a 99-year lease in 2007 to develop the lakeside. A senior municipal official who declined to be named said both residents and officials used the court to resolve issues.
