On the morning of January 19th 2015, about 60 urban poor community members (including residents of Boeung Kak Lake) gathered in front of City Hall demanding resolutions to recent land disputes. Prominent land activists such as Yorm Bopha, Chray Nim, Sia Nareth, and Chum Ngan were also in attendance.
The demonstrators then marched to the National Assembly building. They were escorted by security with police coordinating traffic. CNRP MP Chea Poch came outside to meet the growing crowd in front of the National Assembly gates. He told reporters that the CNRP is working to persuade the Municipality of Phnom Penh to intervene in the Boeung Kak land disputes. Community representatives also invited MPs to monitor the trial of 11 female land activists being brought to court on January 22nd.
